Dear colleagues –
In the fall of 2015, the Integrated Academic / Professional Advising Community of Practice surveyed the CACUSS membership and other advising colleagues from across the country to help gain an understanding of the state of advising in Canada.
We discovered that about 75% of respondents indicated that they were either unsure or did not have a campus-wide advising strategy. In addition, few institutions reported having a common approach to their advising practices. Ultimately, what emerged, was a diverse landscape of advising across Canada. To help compliment the survey results, and continue to push forward the discipline of advising in Canada, we believe there are two specific ways we can move forward –
- Encourage our colleagues from across the country to submit a program proposal for the 2016 CACUSS Conference. The deadline for submissions is January 29. Putting forward a proposal to share your advising narrative, an advising program you oversee or a practice you want feedback on will only advance your work and our profession as a whole. Should you want to talk through a proposal idea, any member of the Community of Practice leadership team would be more than happy to help. Click here for more details.
- Secondly, please join us on February 10th for a 1hr webinar about the survey results and learn what your colleagues and peers from across the country are doing and how we as a community can continue to build and grow. Registration details can be found here
We hope the start of term and year has treated you and your colleagues well. We do recognize that it’s a busy time of year, and hope you can take the time to work with us to grow and develop the good work that’s happening on our campuses.
All the best,
