OAAP One Day Conference Coming Soon!
Mental health challenges are reaching alarming levels in our students. Research shows that the rates of suicide, stress, and mental health illnesses diagnosed are growing exponentially.
The OAAP is excited to announce that a one-day OAAP conference is coming up in June, hosted at the University of Waterloo with the theme of Mental Health. This conference will be one day only, in the hopes that more of our advising partners can attend. Keep up to date by following us on Twitter, Facebook and checking our site regularly. We are in the early planning stages, but are excited about our keynote speaker prospects!!
CACUSS Community of Practice
The “Integrated Academic and Professional Advising Community of Practice” has been approved by CACUSS and OAAP is working to determine how we can support the development of Community of Practice. Tim Fricker, Director of Student Success Initiatives at Mohawk College, has included information about the proposal and the acceptance in his newest blog.
If you are interested in being more involved or learning more about the Community of Practice development consider becoming a member of CACUSS, attending the CACUSS conference this year and/or reach out to Tim Fricker (firstname.lastname@example.org) for additional information.
2016 NACADA Region 5 Conference – Hosted in Toronto
Make sure to keep some money in your 2016 professional development budgets to attend the NACADA 2016 conference being held in Toronto! More information about dates and locations will be coming out soon so watch for NACADA emails and OAAP updates in the coming months. If you are not already a member of NACADA this would be a great time to consider joining, and it is not too late to register for the 2015 Region 5 Conference in Indianapolis April 8-10, 2015.
OAAP Book Discussion
There is still time to get involved in the OAAP Book Discussion! You can read the first chapter of Tim Elmore’s Generation iY: Our Last Chance to Save the Future (PDF) and be ready to contribute to the discussion by thinking about whether you agree with Elmore about the characteristics of iY generation. Christy Carlson (Trent University) and Diana Bumstead (Huron at Western University) will be looking for your comments to the discussion via our blog.
Looking for Ways to Contribute to OAAP?
We are always looking for members to contribute to our blog and newsletter. If you have something you want shared with our members, are interested in writing an article or blog post, or think a program or person should be highlighted or recognized please contact the Steering Committee.
Keep in Touch!
