The OAAP Steering Committee extends a warm welcome to our newest member, Andrea West, from the University of Waterloo. If you are reading this and wondering how you can also become a member of the OAAP Steering Committee please keep in mind that we are always recruiting for new members (including President later this year). The time commitment is only a few hours a month and you can weigh in on communications, new initiatives, and upcoming conferences. Contact us any time with questions!
Speaking of time commitments, if you are feeling overwhelmed with your work load as an Advisor, you may be interested to read some of the tips in our first Ask an Advisor blog below. Read on, and don’t forget to look for us at NACADA – just a little over a month away!
Ask an Advisor Blog
Do you have a question that you need an answer to? Do you need another perspective on a student affairs/advising idea? If so, “Ask an Advisor”! As part of the OAAP website, there is a blog dedicated to answering your questions so that we can get the OAAP community exchanging tips and resources. Our first post is up and asks, “What are some of the strategies and tools you use during those crazy times of the year?”
Look for us at NACADA April 6 – 8 in Toronto
Please drop by and say hello at the OAAP booth in between sessions, and plan to join us at two exciting events.
We will be co-facilitating a pre-conference session with CACUSS and the NACADA Canada Interest Group that will give you a chance to network and propose objectives for theses associations. Read more about this session.
We will also be hosting an evening get together on Thursday, April 7th at 7 pm. Please plan to join us at The 3 Brewers Restaurant located on 120 Adelaide Street West, which is a 5 minute walk from the Sheridan Hotel. This will be a great chance for current and prospective OAAP members to connect and share ideas on what promises to be a fun night out!
Host an OAAP Conference
OAAP aims to offer annual conferences as a key professional development and networking opportunity. The OAAP Steering Committee will support an on-campus planning committee to offer 1 – 2 day conferences hosted at different institutions across Ontario.
If you are interested in hosting one of our conferences please read some of the details and contact us for proposal information!
If you have ideas, wish to volunteer/write a blog, or send us an Ask an Advisor question, etc. please contact us.
Share this email with your colleagues and encourage them to become an OAAP member by joining our mailing list at the bottom of the home page.
